"Clover Leaf"
For this studio project, I created a theatricalized version of Charles James' 1953 "Clover Leaf" Dress. The scope of this project included creating a strapless foundation, the skirt support, and the gown to go on top of it.
I began by creating a half-scale mockup out of poser board. After I was happy with it, I moved in a fabric half-scale before moving into full. In full scale, we added additional bones to support the "leaves". After the first fabric fitting, I added a layer of pellon felt to the underside of the skirt, which helped smooth the line of the skirt. It also provided a solid foundation for the velvet and silk faille that lived on top.
